Why do Americans perceive that their civic structure was unique? When Jefferson wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident,” were they? Would the average person in colonies, or in other villages throughout Europe, understand these as self-evident truths? Come join Valencia College Professor Carl Creasman to examine aspects of our overall civic structure—such as "governance of and from the people,” that governing power should be separated, or that power in the central government to be limited—and why or if those should still be retained or tweaked in the early 21st century.
