We’ll examine how Joan Hassall’s illustrations of Jane Austen’s novels for The Folio Society’s editions in the 1950's and 60's captured the elegance and social intricacies of Austen’s world with refined line-drawings. Our discussion of Hassall's work takes place against the backdrop of Austen's appeal to readers in the years after WWII. Partnership with Jane Austen Society of North America.
