Program Description

Details

Age 16+. This course centers the experiences of African Americans as we spend time with stories, movies, and written personal accounts, asking the question: What does it mean to be free? The course examines the wide variety of identities raised in the United States as well as the differences between British and Spanish colonial communities.

ABOUT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES SERIES:
After teaching an African American Studies course in 2023-2024, Nikki Fragala Barnes, PhD, MFA created four short courses that introduce us to African American history, arts, and culture. Each course is 4 sessions. You are welcome to attend any single session or each course in its entirety! Expect great conversations and the opportunity to collaborate on activities and media as we explore beyond the page.
