Grade 5-Adult. Alias Anna: A True Story of Outwitting the Nazis tells the incredible story of a young Ukrainian girl, Zhanna Arshanskaya, whose pianistic virtuosity saved her life as she and her sister hid their Jewish identities among a troupe of performers traveling across Europe with the Nazi elite.

Zhanna’s son, author Greg Dawson is joined by wife Candy, whose documentary filmed in Ukraine will be shown, and their daughter Aimée who is the audiobook narrator. While a student at Glenridge Middle School in 1994, a social studies assignment led Aimée to write a letter to her grandmother that would unlock this long-hidden tale of survival.

Written with children’s author Susan Hood, this new book is a reworking of Greg’s adult book, Hiding in the Spotlight. Alias Anna will be available for sale from Writer’s Block Bookstore at the event.

A book signing will follow.
