Since the founding of the city of Winter Park in 1887, we have been a community that cares for one another. Our residents are always there to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need. Over the years, the Winter Park Library has remained a constant supplier of resources that benefit the community. Today is no different.

This summer we are holding a school supply drive to help children get the items they need to have a successful school year. The supply drive benefits the Winter Park Housing Authority, specifically the Meadows at Margaret Square.

The Meadows is home to over 100 school-aged children. Those children need our help. Each year the Meadows hosts a Back to School bash to celebrate the beginning of the new school year.

Terena Grant, Interim Executive Director & Resource Coordinator of the Winter Park Housing Authority says “The Winter Park Housing is excited to host our annual Back to School Bash for our children at The Meadows at Margaret Square. Thanks to the generous contributions by our community partnership, we supply each child with a book bag and school supplies according to their grade level. Last year, we supplied 105 children ages 5-17 with school supplies to start the school year.”

According to a recent annual impact report by the Kids In Need Foundation, 76 percent of educators surveyed said student self-esteem improved when students had the school supplies they needed. If preparation is the key to success, having critical classroom tools can make all the difference. Something as simple as a pencil and paper can give students the hands-on learning they need for success in the classroom and in life.

Our school supply drive runs from June 10 through July 9.  We are accepting all types of new and unused school supplies. Some supplies needed are backpacks, notebooks, pens/pencils, markers, and crayons. Please open your heart and help us support our community.
