Perhaps one of the most recognized and highly regarded names in the cultural history of Winter Park is that of the renowned architect James Gamble Rogers II. It’s a marginally smaller but very fortunate group who know the name and music of Rogers’ son who was known to the world as Gamble Rogers.
Gamble was truly one of a kind. He was a master performer, whose humor, wit, and wisdom came through in the stories he told in his songs and in his prolific on-stage banter. Gamble was also a first-class guitar picker. His chops on the instrument could make jaws drop.
This month, WPL will host our third annual celebration of Gamble’s stories, music, and legacy. We will begin on Saturday, October 19 at 2 pm, with a Gamble Rogers Cinema Fest in our Edyth Bush Theatre. We’ll be watching the documentary Gamble Rogers: Down at the Terminal Tavern and live concert film Gamble Rogers: Homegrown Philosophy (Part Two). Both films will be screened courtesy of the Gamble Rogers Memorial Foundation.
The following afternoon, Sunday, October 20 please join us again at 2 pm for Gamble Rogers’ Orange Blossom Special, a concert featuring Del Suggs and Sam Pacetti, two very talented singer-songwriters whose lives were touched by Gamble’s music and friendship.
